Visit Črna Vas just outside Ljubljana to see this Plečnik’s miracle!
Plečnik is considered one of the world’s most important modern architects.
Why Črna Vas?
The small village of Črna Vas is home to one of the most celebrated pieces of Plečnik architecture in the region – the Church of St Michael.
Plečnik’s work shaped the appearance of three important central European cities: Vienna, Prague and Ljubljana.
One of Plečnik’s most original creations
The Church of St. Michael, built between 1937 and 1940 at Ljubljana Marshes, combines the features of Greek temples with those of the churches of the Slovenian Kras (Karst) region, which are characterised by open belfries as part of their front façades.
Plečnik used local materials and the intricate knowledge of craftsmen in the town in order to build the church, which has grown into one of his most beloved works.
