Hostel Celica awarded for its response to Covid-19 crises
Hostel Celica (Hostel Cell), is a former military prison in Ljubljana, artistically transformed into a hostel. It’s also known as the coolest hostel in the Slovenian capital, not only because of its unique concept, but also because of its commitment to sustainability.
Helping out the medical personnel during the pandemic
When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the spring of 2020, Hostel Celica, which is run by the Ljubljana Castle Public Institution, responded immediately. As the public transport throughout Slovenia stopped, they offered the medical staff of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, who were daily commuting to Ljubljana, the facilities of the hostel for sleep-overs.
The hostel provided the medical staff with empty and disinfected rooms and a peaceful and comfortable stay, while also implementing all other necessary protective measures.
Recipients of the state’s memorial sign
Therefore, to most of us came as no surprise that they were recently among the recipients of the government’s special commemorative sign, presented to them by Ljubljana’s mayor.
Well done, Hostel Celica!
Of course, we also hope for a quick end to the epidemic and a revival of tourism.
