Have You Heard About a Hidden Canyon Near Ljubljana? A Real Hiker’s Paradise!

Less than 20 kilometers from the Slovenian capital, Iški Vintgar – the Ig Canyon – invites visitors to explore its mysteries.
A beautiful gorge was formed by the Iška River. Most of the gorge, which is around 400 to 500 meters deep, can be explored by walking. The gorge is open year-round, although visiting during the spring or summer months offers the best weather for outdoor exploration.
We took a bus number 19I from Ljubljana Bavarski dvor to Iška vas. From there we walked cc 30-45 minutes to the gorge. The scenery along the way to the gorge is stunning.

A peaceful escape into the heart of nature
Just a short drive from Slovenia’s charming capital, Ljubljana, lies a hidden natural treasure waiting to be discovered. You can also reach the gorge by a local bus and continue on foot through the gorge.
Some make it a bike trip from the capital, there’s also a car park near for those choosing to get there with a car (and leave it outside the gorge).

When the heat strikes, the gorge becomes an oasis of greenery and coolness for city dwellers. The banks of the Iška River are filled with people who come to escape the heat of the city by walking in the greenery or swimming in the clean water of the Iška River.
