Lake Bled or Lake Bohinj?

Lake Bled or Lake Bohinj?

This is a question that we are frequently asked by those planning their travel itinerary ahead of their first visit to Slovenia.

So, what should they know?

Too close for big dilemmas

Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj are only 20 km apart, with a road distance of 27.9 km. This means the two stunning lakes are practically neighbors! Driving between them takes just about 30 minutes, making it easy to explore both in one trip.

Below is a photo of the breathtaking Lake Bohinj.

Lake Bohinj

Yes, it’s absolutely possible to visit both Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj in one day. However…

To make the most of your day, you’ll need to start early in the morning. Lake Bled is best experienced with a leisurely walk around its shores. The scenery is nothing short of spectacular, and the walk itself is incredibly refreshing and revitalizing.

That said, squeezing both lakes into one day might leave you short on time to truly enjoy the beauty of Lake Bled’s iconic walk. It’s a real treat that deserves to be savored.

Rushing through your visit to Lake Bled might leave you with little time to indulge in a delicious local specialty: the famous cream cake, known as kremšnita. It’s a must-try treat that pairs perfectly with the lake’s serene ambiance.

Which one is more beautiful?

This is a question we simply cannot answer definitively—both lakes are incredibly magical, each offering a wealth of activities to enjoy. From swimming in the summer to boat rides, paddleboarding (SUP), kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and even diving, there’s no shortage of adventure around either lake.

Lake Bled tends to be more touristy, and during the summer months, it can be nearly impossible to find a quiet spot by the lake. In contrast, Lake Bohinj is much larger, offering plenty of space to unwind and enjoy the serenity of nature in peaceful solitude.

It’s fair to say that tourists tend to favor Lake Bled, while locals have a soft spot for the tranquility of Lake Bohinj.

Enjoy Slovenia!
