Lonely Planet names Slovenia among TOP 5 countries for 2022!

Ljubljana, 28 October, 2021 – Slovenia has placed fifth on Lonely Planet’s list of TOP 10 countries to visit in 2022 as the travel brand highlights the country’s diverse gastronomy and numerous possibilities of active experiences.

Lonely Planet’s ‘BEST IN TRAVEL 2022’ is out!

Specialist travel publisher Lonely Planet has named its top places to go for in 2022, with Slovenia taking #5 in the top 10 spot! Lonely Planet explains that ‘Slovenia is a world leader in being literally and figuratively “green” with responsible travel being part of the Slovenia way of life for decades’.

Slovenia also welcomed several new hiking and cycling routes this year including the Green Gourmet Route in June, which encourages visitors to explore the country’s varied landscape and local communities through local dishes on two wheels, and the Juliana Loop Biking Trail, a 290km journey through the beautiful Julian Alps mountain range.

Piran, Slovenia’s charming coastal town, made it on the cover page of the Lonely Planet’s 2022 edition!

The TOP 10 list

Lonely Planet awarded the Cook Islands the gold medal ‘thanks to its innovative strategies for pushing forward environmental initiatives in the South Pacific’.

Runner-up Norway is described as a ‘leading light on sustainability, green technology and community culture initiatives, from the cities to the wilderness’. Mauritius claims third place on the countries list, followed by Belize and Slovenia.

The rest of the ranking for countries comprises Anguilla (6th), Oman (7th), Nepal (8th), Malawi (9th) and Egypt in tenth place.
