Old Ljubljana Bicycle Factory turns Urban Creative Centre
At the old Ljubljana Rog factory once bicycles were made, among them the legendary and very popular ‘Pony’ which can still be seen on the bicycle trails of Ljubljana.
But like many other renowned plants in the Slovenian capital, once a prominent factory suffered a sad fate. The great Rog factory era was sealed for good.
After the factory shut in the noise of machines went silent, the empty factory halls were turned into the social cultural centre by local activists. The buildings came to life with workshops and shows by many local and international artists, as well as with evening concerts.
The new Rog Centre
In the recent years, the city of Ljubljana, who owns the property, announced its plans for an urban renewal of Rog.
Across four floors covering more than 8000 square meters, a space for designers, architects, artists, engineers, students, scientists, entrepreneurs, researchers, children and the rest of the general public of all ages will stand.
According to the Initiator and Head of RogLab, Meta Štular: “𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑅𝑜𝑔 𝐶𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑣𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑟𝑠, 𝑜𝑟𝑔𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑠𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠, 𝑏𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑝𝑢𝑏𝑙𝑖𝑐, 𝑎 𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑒𝑛𝑣𝑖𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑖𝑛𝑛𝑜𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒, 𝑠𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑏𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 21𝑠𝑡 𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑦.”
