The new-old Hotel Bohinj almost ready to impress!
21 February, 2021
Slovenian crypto millionaire Damian Merlak’s second hotel in Bohinj is planned to open its doors in the spring!
A hotel for young at heart!
The renovation of the Hotel Bohinj in Ribčev Laz started in October 2019 – after the renovation of the Aparthotel Triglav in Stara Fužina was completed.
The other two hotels which the young Slovenian millionaire bought and intends to renovate are Villa Muhr and Hotel Zlatorog.
Merlak, who loved visiting Lake Bohinj in his childhood, decided to help boost the local economy and invest in some of the Bohinj’s once most eminent hotels that were left to ruin – but are now slowly getting a new look with the new owner!
Local and sustainable
The renovated four-star hotel Hotel Bohinj will have 70 rooms, of which seven suites, as well as a restaurant and bar, a multi-purpose hall and a wellness centre. Its concept is based on the natural alpine environment, sustainable development and the revival of local traditions and culture.
However, it is not to be confused with the Bohinj Eco Hotel in Bohinjska Bistrica which opened in 2009 and it is known as the first Green Globe certified hotel in Slovenia
Renovation of Villa Muhr and Hotel Zlatorog to follow
Next to the Hotel Bohinj in Ribčev Laz there is another building awaiting revival: Villa Muhr, also known as Karađorđević’s villa, which was built in 1902 for the Viennese merchant Adolf Muhr. Renovation of this villa, which has long been empty, is planned for next year.
Hotel Zlatorog in Ukanc, which has been closed since 2011, and is in the worst condition of all the hotels bought by the crypto millionaire, is set to open by the end of 2022.
